Project Overview
Tarbox Custom Cutlery crafts one-of-a-kind, handcrafted knives, each made entirely in-house—from initial cutout and grinding to heat treatment, finishing, and final sharpening. The goal of this project was to build a distinct, authentic brand that reflects the integrity and craftsmanship behind every blade, while paying homage to the rich history of the shop’s location. As the creative lead, I developed the complete brand ecosystem—from initial concepting to launch. The project included logo development, digital presence, signage, and marketing materials, all designed to convey quality, durability, and timeless tradition.

Creative Direction
Inspired by the historic Tarbox House—named after Rev. Increase Niles Tarbox (1815–1888), a local theologian, author, and literacy advocate—the brand identity evokes a sense of heritage and craftsmanship rooted in New England tradition. The visual system balances rugged functionality with a clean, modern sensibility, appealing to collectors, outdoorsmen, and knife enthusiasts alike.

Design Deliverables

Logo & Visual Identity
Developed a custom logo suite optimized for a variety of applications, including storefront signage, knife stamps, product packaging, digital avatars, and promotional merchandise. The typography and iconography were chosen to reflect durability, handcraft, and a sense of legacy.

Website Design & Digital Presence
Designed a fully responsive website that showcases the artistry of the knives and the story behind the maker. The site includes product galleries, custom commission information, care instructions, and the brand’s origin story tied to the Tarbox family history. Visuals emphasize material texture, precision, and craftsmanship.

Marketing Materials & Packaging
Designed packaging tags, business cards, certificates of authenticity, stickers, and branded care sheets. Each piece was crafted to reinforce the artisanal and bespoke nature of the product.

Social Media & Content
Created branded content templates and profile assets for Instagram and other social platforms, enabling cohesive storytelling and product showcases across channels.

Outcome
The branding and digital strategy helped establish Tarbox Custom Cutlery as a premium maker in the handcrafted knife space, elevating both the perceived value of the product and the storytelling around its creation. The fusion of local history, personal craftsmanship, and strong visual branding provides customers with a genuine connection to the maker and the product’s origin, setting Tarbox apart in a saturated market.
