Client:
Cooks Lobster & Ale House
Originally founded in 1955 as a one-room takeout stand on Bailey Island, Cook’s Lobster House grew into a well-known coastal destination. In 2015, under new ownership, the restaurant underwent a full rebrand—ushering in a new era while preserving its deep local roots.
As the lead designer on the project, I helped guide the transition from Cook’s Lobster House to Cook’s Lobster & Ale House, with a creative strategy that honored its legacy and captured the energy of its modern direction.
Design Contributions:
- Logo Design: Developed a refreshed logo system combining nautical heritage with contemporary typography, used across digital and print applications.
- Website Design: Designed and built a new mobile-responsive website to highlight the restaurant’s updated menu, story, events, and waterfront location.
- Menu Design: Created new food and drink menus that balanced coastal charm with modern simplicity, enhancing readability and brand consistency.
- Signage: Produced interior and exterior signage, including wayfinding and large-format displays, to complement the new brand identity and improve guest experience.
- Brand Guidelines: Established a cohesive brand standards document including color palette, typography, image treatments, and usage rules to ensure consistency across platforms and media.
This rebranding project successfully positioned Cook’s for a new generation of diners—celebrating its history while reintroducing it as a refreshed and vibrant destination on the Maine coast.
